Hi all. Yes, I know we’ve been a little quiet in here – RL got super-busy, but I thought somebody else might make the odd post or two. Since they haven’t, I’m now pondering on the future of Writer’s Toybox.Does anyone still want the community? If so, what would you like to see here?It has also been suggested that Writer’s Toybox is opened up to all writers and stops being just a B/A community. Can I have your thoughts, please? Is anybody still there? Thanks!
I'm no longer really writing Buffy much and it looks like so much of fandom has migrated to Tumblr so it's hard to know what to do.
Yes, that’s why I’m trying to gauge enthusiasm here. Its not looking too promising so far…What do you think of the possibility of making Toybox into a general writing site? I’m still not sure anyone would use it…!
I don't know. Most of the ones I've seen have petered out. I'm not sure why and that's not just on LJ I' m hearing that from most of the blog services. But you can't duplicate that on facebook or twitter. Maybe tumblr
Oh dear. That's really sad...
It is and the more I see us moving to these short forms of communication the more I see the dumbing down of the rules of writing (they want all adjectives and epithets to go now)
What! Makes you wonder why you bother, doesn’t it?I’m beginning to wonder how long it will be before everyone talks to each other in text-speak, too…
It's stunning and disturbing
I'm still here. Just super busy at the moment. It's sad that so many lj comms seem to be dying out these days. Personally, I don't get the appeal of Tumblr. If it stops being a B/A community, there won't be any left(other than IWRY Marathon)I think this is a great place to find prompt ideas. So I hope you leave it up and maybe if nothing else add prompts, plot bunnies, etc... every once in a while.
With RL so busy, I have practically no spare time to spend on fandom, (which is why I gave up IWRY this year) and I need to figure out where my time will be best spent, or indeed, if there is anything I can do that people still want…Thank you for responding. I’m still hoping for more responses, to show that somebody else besides us still care, but I got fed up making prompts and such to be greeted with silence. I hope that means everybody was too busy writing to answer…I’m happy to leave Toybox here. I just want to know somebody will come in and play with the toys sometimes! Are there really no B/A coms left? That’s so very sad.
I can't find any B/A comms.I would've responded sooner but I was opening up the next round of wicked_awards. I've put a link to this comm in the IWRY Marathon Welcome Letter. Just in case someone might need help finding a prompt for their story.
You have…? Eek… I’d better get some new stuff up here shortly then, hadn’t I? If you want, you can mention that they’re welcome to make their own posts, ask questions, add their own prompts, etc.Edited at 2014-07-31 10:53 pm (UTC)
Yes, I have. It probably wouldn't hurt. Although there are some great prompts already on the site.Okay, I'll do that.
Thank you - on both counts!
Personally, I don't get the appeal of Tumblr.Makes two of us. If I can post stuff but no one can really talk back to me, what the hell is the point? I came to LJ because I liked having conversations.
You can't talk to each other on Tumblr? Um, okay. I can't see how that would be useful...
You can in an indirect way. Someone puts up a post, other people either "like" it or they repost it on their own tumblr with an additional comment or response - it's very counter-intuitive. But apparently some people like it. I'm sorry that your community has been moribund of late, btw. I've ended up being more of a fanfic artist here and not really a writer except for nonfiction so I'm afraid i can't add anything.
Thank you. I don’t know where everyone is to be honest.Members don’t need to post stories – people used to add prompts, interesting words or links to articles they’ve found, etc… but there’s been nothing lately. A bit of a shame, really.
I assume you mean more than just the usual summer "where is everyone"? (At the icontest comms I frequent, the mods are having to extend deadlines and the number of entries is very low compared to what it was in the springtime.)And admitttedly I don't know many Bangel folks aside from leni_ba and bangel_4e. It sounds a bit similar here to Open on Sunday in terms of what people can do here?If you like I can pimp this site this coming week and say hey, looking for members? I may have hidden Bangel shippers on my flist.
Yes, its been pretty quiet for a while, but that’s probably my fault. If you don’t post, they don’t come… Well, I’ve never been to Open on Sunday. Essentially, Writer’s Toybox was intended as a prompt resource. We use a lots of general writing prompts (a lot of non-B/A-ers come in and steal or read them, but that’s okay!) The only pairing-specific prompts we allow, obviously, are B/A(us) ones and only their stories can be posted here, but otherwise everyone is welcome to share our toys. By all means pimp. New members would be wonderful, thank you! Oh, and B/A shippers? Yes, we get everywhere….
If you don’t post, they don’t come… My S.O moans that no one responds to her art blog and FB and I try to gently tell her "you have to post things on a regular basis sweetie to build an audience" but I don't think the message is being received. *Lol*I'm trying to post on my LJ more regularly myself, even if it's something short and silly. But RL comes first, y'know?Would this site be of more interest to you yourself if you made the changes you suggested (a more general writing site?) If you're excited about it, other people will be too.I'll be glad to pimp this site - I love the idea of it, being able to seek advice and not just post stuff and wait for everyone else to applaud.Oh, and B/A shippers? Yes, we get everywhere…. You're sneaky that way. ;)
Yes. The web is a big place, full of shiny new things, and if you don’t jump up and down waving your arms in the air, people tend to overlook you – even if they like what you do. Too many things to look at, and not enough time, I guess. It’s hard finding time to post regularly isn’t it? When I was more organised (don’t laugh, it happens occasionally) I used to prepare some updates in advance, on days when I had more time, and it helped to cover the days that I didn’t.Would this site be of more interest to you yourself if you made the changes you suggested (a more general writing site?) If you're excited about it, other people will be too. That’s an interesting question. This site nearly was a general one, to be honest, but friends asked me to make it a B/A one, and since I had a whole flock of B/A sites it seemed a reasonable request. But its restricting, and keeps out a whole batch of folk who might otherwise have fun here. It think that my enthusiasm is low because a) RL is a little too real right now, b) fandom lethargy has been doing my head in for some time now, and c) I’ve been running sites for thirteen years and maybe I just need to take a step back for a bit.New members are the life blood of every site. More please! (and thank you.)
The web is a big place, full of shiny new things,And ADD is NOT my friend. I've had to limit where I visit daily just to keep from going insane.I try to post at least once a week and I'm making every effort to do so more often but I often fail. (oh look, a new fanfic, shiny!)But its restricting, and keeps out a whole batch of folk who might otherwise have fun here.I think you're answering your own question. If the format doesn't excite you what's the point? Fandom is supposed to be about having fun.Pimping this right now.
Late to the party but here's my two cents.I'm as guilty as the next person, rarely on LJ anymore, only occasionally peeking in to see if it's still here. Barely it seems...so sad. Everyone has dropped the ball for one reason or another.Opening up Toybox to other fandoms has no appeal to me whatsoever...I'm quite narrow-minded...but maybe I'm the exception rather than the rule, and it would be a shame to take away the only remaining B/A exclusive community besides IWRY! Just sayin'...Either way, to put your mind at rest over this, possibly giving it one more go would help determine what happens next. But then someone has to start the ball rolling...!Are you really up for it?Hugs!Z
Never too late!It would be a shame to lose another B/A site, but I wonder that if nobody is running or visiting them, does that mean there is no call for them?I’m not going to close Toybox, I just haven’t decided what to do next. Are you really up for it? Always! But what squishes my enthusiasm is when nobody seems to care… if people want B/A things I’m more than happy to provide, but you know how depressed the fandom lethargy has made me feel lately. This is why I’m tying to judge interest with this post.Hugs,~DS
And I'm LATE to the party as well. Tumblr? Never had an interest, and it seems as if I was right not to have one. Like the previous post I am only interested in the B/A forums, though I do have a keen interest in Trueblood I have never gone out of my way to look for forums in that fandom. There was just SOMETHING about Buffy and Angel that took, and still takes, my fancy. Life has just gotten busier and I seem to have less time to check my LJ friends' posts, where once before it was my TO DO every day. Apologies to all my flist. HugsAres
Hey Ares! Good to see you here! I think most of us have been busy, so maybe hang around fandom less than we did. I know I’m certainly guilty of that… Like you, I’m fond of other shows but none have ever inspired me to seek out other fans or meeting places, etc, so its rather odd really. Thanks for responding here. Its never too late!
